New Vitae Wellness and Recovery Residential Treatment Facility for Adults (RTF-A), located on South Sixth Street in Philadelphia, opened its doors to welcome its first residents following months of planning and collaboration on August 12th, 2016.  This milestone was a huge success for staff and residents. The day began with a warm reception filled with music, food and fun.  The residents and staff got better acquainted through activities and events designed to foster relationships.  The group completed various tasks throughout the weekend, including local shopping trips, spiritual activities, and other group supports.  Additional residents will continue to move in over the course of several weeks.

The New Vitae Wellness and Recovery RTF-A utilizes the lens of the Recovery Model to offer trauma-informed, culturally and spiritually individualized care for individuals referred for behavioral and mental health treatment services via the legal system.  Supports emphasize a holistic view to health that includes nursing care and primary-care or specialist physician services in addition to behavioral healthcare.  Services are team-based, and can include vocational specialists, care coordinators, peer specialists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals.  Residents will have access to services 24 hours a day, with personalized recovery plans that emphasize independent living skill development, autonomy, and community connections to promote successful transitions.

The staff of New Vitae Wellness and Recovery House Sixth Street wishes to extend a special thank you to Philadelphia’s Aaron T. Beck Center.  Members of the Beck Initiative have provided training and support to staff in order to be ready to welcome new residents and integrate person-first, trauma-informed services.  These trainers, in partnership with the Department of Behavioral Health, Community Behavioral Health, and Justice Partners have been able to lay the foundation to continue to ensure evidence-based, high-quality services for the residents of South Sixth Street’s RTF-A.  These agencies will continue to provide supportive assistance to maximize residents’ success.

“Congratulations to New Vitae!” said Paul Grant, PhD, of the Aaron T. Beck Center.  “We are proud and thrilled to be partners in this recovery effort.”
