Celebrating Cheryl Considine's 30 Years at New Vitae
Over three decades, Cheryl Considine has grown alongside New Vitae Wellness and Recovery, building a career defined by compassion, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.
A Career of Growth
Cheryl joined New Vitae in 1996 as a Mental Health Worker. What began as a direct care position quickly became a career journey that would take her through nearly every aspect of the organization. Over the years, Cheryl has served as a Mental Health Worker, Treatment Team Coordinator, Case Manager, Apartment Program Supervisor, Mentoring Program Supervisor, Recovery Center Program Director, and now Billing & Benefits Specialist within the Finance Department. Along the way, she also provided part-time Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) and mentoring services.
Her career path reflects not only New Vitae’s growth, but also her willingness to embrace new opportunities and step into roles wherever she was needed.
“One of the things I’ve always appreciated, and even shared during interviews, is New Vitae’s ability to meet you where you’re at,” Cheryl said. “I’ve had opportunities to move up the ladder, but I’ve also been able to transition into positions with different levels of responsibility when that’s what I needed during certain periods of my life.”
Throughout her career, Cheryl has helped launch programs, guide residents, supervise teams, and develop services that continue to make an impact today. She is especially proud of creating the mentoring programs, helping strengthen the Pathways program, and building lasting relationships with residents throughout the years.
Today, Cheryl brings that same experience and institutional knowledge to the Finance Department, where she supports billing and benefits. Even after more than 30 years, she says she’s still learning something new every day.
Growing with New Vitae
When asked what has kept her at New Vitae for 30 years, Cheryl doesn’t hesitate. “The residents, my coworkers, and feeling like I’m part of something because I’ve grown with the company over the years.” She describes New Vitae as a second family and credits the many teams she has worked alongside for helping shape her career. “Had I not worked with all of the amazing teams I’ve had over the years, I might not have made it this far.”
Along the way, Cheryl has been fortunate to work with mentors who helped guide her professional journey, including Adele Lemak, Francie Hoch, and Brianna Casey.
Like anyone who has spent three decades in behavioral health, Cheryl has experienced both difficult and incredibly rewarding moments. Her advice to new staff reflects that balance. “Stick with it. There will be some really tough days when all you want to do is go home and never drive back in that direction. But then you’ll have days when you really feel like you’ve made a difference, and that will always outweigh the bad days.”
If she could offer one piece of advice to her younger self on her very first day at New Vitae? “Buckle up. You’re in for one heck of a ride!”
Looking Back
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cheryl’s connection to New Vitae has always been personal. Over the years, her father, brother, son, and niece have all worked for the organization, reflecting the family atmosphere that has kept her here for 30 years. She also fondly remembers Cape May and Florida trips, Halloween costume competitions with Brian, and countless coworkers and residents who have made New Vitae feel like home.
Throughout her career, Cheryl has been recognized with multiple Residents’ Choice Awards, Employee of the Year, and numerous Employee of the Month honors. Cheryl’s 30 year milestone was recently celebrated with a commemorative dinner, providing an opportunity to reflect on the many memories, milestones, and friendships built throughout her career at New Vitae.
Donna Devlin shared: “It has been such a joy watching Cheryl grow over the past 30 years. I’ve watched Cheryl embrace every opportunity that has come her way, always with a positive attitude and a willingness to do whatever was needed. Celebrating her anniversary over dinner was special because we had the chance to reminisce about the good old days and reflect on just how much New Vitae has grown. Cheryl has grown right alongside us, and we’re so proud of everything she’s accomplished.”
After 30 years, Cheryl’s career reflects the many paths a person can take when they’re willing to grow, adapt, and embrace new opportunities. From direct care to program development to finance, her journey has mirrored New Vitae’s own evolution. Along the way, she has made a lasting impact on the residents, coworkers, and programs she has supported throughout the years.
Congratulations, Cheryl, and thank you for 30 years of dedication to the New Vitae community.
