The Browne Cottage at Mount Trexler Manor: A Year in Review
Since its grand opening in early 2023, The Browne Cottage at New Vitae Wellness and Recovery’s Mount Trexler Manor property has become an integral part of our Action Recovery brain injury program. Designed to combine a home-like environment with advanced rehabilitation programming, the cottage has become a cornerstone for recovery and growth, celebrating significant milestones in its first year of operation.
Building Momentum: New Residents and Expanded Services
The Browne Cottage has welcomed seven residents this year. The Cottage is part of a project to provide more housing options for veterans and others looking for progressive brain injury care in home-like settings. This year, we expanded our Action Recovery team to enhance community integration, activity coordination, and cognitive and mental health supports. Our staff and residents have embraced a collaborative environment that fosters growth and healing.
One of the most exciting developments this year has been the development of in-house Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT) component to our programming within the Action Recovery model. CRT focuses on improving cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving, which are often impacted by brain injuries. Both staff and residents are eager for the opportunities this programming will bring to support deeper recovery and independence.
Key Achievements
This year has been marked by milestones that underscore our commitment to providing top-tier care for brain injury recovery:
- Five additional staff members have earned their Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) credentials, further enhancing the expertise available to our residents.
- We received CARF accreditation for three years, a testament to our adherence to the highest standards of care and operational excellence.
- We acquired a Personal Care Home License, reflecting our dedication to meeting regulatory standards and providing safe, high-quality living environments.
A Foundation for the Future
The Browne Cottage represents the culmination of a shared vision to provide progressive brain injury care in a home-like setting, with a special focus on supporting veterans and others in their recovery journeys. As part of the Action Recovery program, this eight-bed, ADA-accessible facility has become a model of integrated care, offering smart technology, a learning lab, and self-sufficient amenities to encourage independence and personal growth.
Judith O. Yanacek, President and CEO of New Vitae Wellness and Recovery, reflects on the year:
“The Browne Cottage has exceeded our expectations in creating a nurturing and empowering environment for individuals recovering from brain injuries. We are proud of the achievements this year, from expanding our staff to rolling out new programming, and we look forward to continuing to serve this incredible community.”
