Our History
New Vitae Wellness and Recovery was founded on the strength and heart of Anne Mills, MSW, a pioneer in the field of mental health care whose legacy continues to guide us today.
Born in 1923, Anne arrived in the U.S. through Ellis Island at the age of six. She went on to become a first-generation college graduate, earning her degree from Hunter College in 1945. Later in life, she completed her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981, well beyond the age most people consider going back to school. Anne was a tireless advocate, a working single mother of four (including our current Board Chair, Adam Devlin), and a dedicated social worker for the Veterans Administration. She began offering respite care in her own home, rooted in the values of patience and fortitude—principles that remain at the core of our mission.
In the early 1980s, Anne established Southampton Personal Care Home and Warwick House, providing residential support for individuals transitioning from state hospitals. As the behavioral health landscape evolved, so did her vision. That foundational work laid the groundwork for what would eventually become New Vitae Wellness and Recovery.
Today, under the leadership of Adam Devlin and Donna Devlin, we remain proudly family-owned, rooted in our mission of “Your New Life”, and dedicated to creating meaningful, supportive spaces where individuals can thrive—emotionally, socially, and physically.
